Jacopo Peri

  • Born: August 20, 1561, Rome
  • Died: August 12, 1633, Florence

Composer of the first ever opera (Dafne, 1597-98), and the earliest surviving opera (Euridice, 1600). He joined the Medici court as a singer, and was a leading member of the Florentine Camerata.
